Company's Interests:
The VAILLANT GROUP is the most international heating technology company in Europe, and offers a wide product range for generating domestic heating and hot water. The emphasis lies on the energy source gas as well as on renewable energies and system intelligence. With regard to wall-hung heating appliances, the Vaillant Group is the number One in Europe, with sales of 1.3 mill. appliances. In 2004 the company achieved a turnover of 1.8 bill. Euro, 6% more than in the previous year. A future market is seen in fuel cells for domestic co-generation (Micro CHP).

Achievements in 2004:
Until 2004 the joint teams of Plug Power and Vaillant have installed 60 Fuel Cell Heating Appliances (FCHA) with 3 field test generations all over Europe. These cogeneration units reach 4.6 kWel net output and provide energy for hot water production and room heating. The appliances are installed in multiple family houses, small business applications like micro-breweries, hotels, and swimming halls. Focusing on the question of how fuel-cell heating appliances - networked as a virtual power plant can be run, more than 30 Vaillant FCHA have been linked with each other via a control centre. Vaillant proved competence in fuel cells based on experience in operation with more than 200.000 operating hours and 700 MWh generated electric power since 2001.

News at HANNOVER FAIR 2005:
Vaillant offers information about the status of the European field tests and next R&D steps. Further innovation in fuel cells lead to more robust and cost-efficient and less complex fuel cell heating appliances. The use of new membranes for fuel cell heating appliances opens up the way to the commercial product. Extended applications will be possible with heat-power-cooling.
