Company's Interests:
Sulzer Hexis develops and produces SOFC for single-family
homes. The company was founded in 1997 as a daughter
company of the Sulzer Group. Material development,
process control and systems integration are its
specialities.
Achievements in 2003:
In 2003, test program with "HXS 1000 Premiere"
pre-series system in collaboration with utilities
and installers was successfully continued. Since
testing began at the end of 2001, stability of
the system has been clearly improved.
Sulzer Hexis develops, produces and distributes
fuel cell systems for single-family homes. The
company was founded in 1997 as a daughter company
of the Sulzer Group. The business conception is
based on the project «HEXIS» (Heat
Exchanger Integrated Stack) initiated by the Group
in 1991. Sulzer Hexis has developed over a number
of years special competence in materials development,
process control and system integration in the
high-temperature fuel cell technology of type
SOFC (Solid Oxide Fuel Cell).
The company is now making the transition from
a pure research and development team to a production
and sales company. At the end of 2001 a three-year,
international field test was successfully concluded.
The phase of production and commissioning a preseries
of fuel cell systems began in December 2001. Powered
by natural gas, the system covers all the thermal
requirements as well as the basic electricity
needs of a single-family home (operating parallel
to the grid).
The «HXS 1000 PREMIERE» systems
are being tested and further developed within
the framework of a preseries phase in co-operation
with utilities and installers, mainly in Germany
and Switzerland, on end users’ premises.
Apart from this, a few systems are being operated
with co-operation partners in France and Austria,
and tested for their usability in the households
of these countries.
